What’s the good of kindness If my head is up my ass? I make sure I say the right words Because I’m made of glass I’ll be a better person While I roll the dice It’s better for the people To hold me in a vice Hold your head up high Knocking on heaven’s door asking for a handout Hold your head up high I’ve got to get my heart right, know the truth, it’ll set me free As I look around me I'm running out of time I try to wipe the slate clean And I always wonder why A brand new state of thinking (I need You, don't pass me by) Feels just like the last It’s total, utter garbage Who has the last laugh? Look around What’s left of you? Hold your head up high Knocking on heaven’s door asking for a handout Hold your head up high I’ve got to get my heart right, know the truth, it’ll set me free Where the clouds and the mountains intersect Where the sun shines through, my thoughts reflect The answers in my mind and in my soul Have I got the key? Won’t let it take it’s toll Because I… Hold my head up high Hold your head up high Knocking on heaven’s door asking for a handout Hold your head up high I’ve got to get my heart right, know the truth, it’ll set me free

Looking out for yourself is number one They taught you that in school while you'd practice coming undone Your bedroom windows down, there's no breeze to be found Your pulse is pounding now You'll have your mouth open screaming, with your hands up in the air You'll clap them together, like you just don't care Prepare to lose your mind as you look in the mirror It's a tragedy to have so much modesty, honestly You can have anything you want You can have anything you need at any time you like At any time you need Spiders crawling down your fake fluorescent face They sure don't look the part, but you'll still play the game Anyone who looks will find your lock and key The apple sure don't fall far from the tree The wind on your face, it says you made the wrong decision The watch on your wrist, tear it off with no inhibition It's a wonder that we've still got life that's worth living What would you do if this was all a stage, and all of us merely players?

What are You saying? Can’t understand Your words They float off the page They were never quite so clear Where are the deeper meanings? Blue skies and thunderclouds A storm is brewing, it's dark up ahead I won't take the pulpit when All I do is ignore my mind as I stretch out my wings and I fall (I wish you were) looking at the wrong guy In the line up My eyes are playing tricks on me Better put my glasses on Welcome to the new age "I remember MLK, talking to the crowds and they listened. He said, "if a man hasn't got something he will die for, why does he live?" Look at the poets Look how they die Scream carpe diem Look how they die I feel so helpless Scream carpe diem Look how we die I cannot compromise everything I have learned In fear that I’ll fall back where I began, concern About the balance More for me And I wonder why He cannot trust me Cannot trust Him Cannot trust you Cannot trust nobody Or I’m the fool I need a hope New age won’t come if I grab it with My old frayed rope MLK said Look to the heavens Find your light Or let go of your rope Let go of your rope Let go of your rope

No, you’re not gonna like this Picture the person that you hate the most They might just show you around town I bet you haven’t seen these things before Stops behind an alley, frozen, long tall sally Expose you, are you malleable? He’ll show you out He’s got an eye for an eye, and a tooth and a nail in the dust behind him You know he knows best (of course, he knows best) Falling in reverse, never say a curse About you, he’ll never turn his back, unless he wins No doubt, no doubt, he’ll never lose his touch You’ll wanna analyse this, player Knocking on your door with his grin Ear to ear Best friend, I detest you Who do you think you are? I’m not lying anymore I can’t do this anymore I wanna show you what I’m thinking I want to show you the insides of my mind Just for one second, tell you about a man Just for one second, a measly man He thinks he’s got it all figured out, thinks he’s got it all under wraps He told you that he can’t do it but he shows that you he can Just for one second, he’s a liar Just for a lifetime, he’s a liar You never hold a grudge but you let your perception shift Until you’re no longer interested Really, which one is worse? His hands on your purse, on your brain, in your mind In my mind, and what do I find? I’m still trying to be like him Just for one second, I’m trying to be like him Why do we want to become the things we hate the most? The things that we hate the most? I just don’t understand people like you Taking advantage of your surroundings All the family that you lost You're living the high life, all over the high life, you're living the high life I can tell you, you're definitely high, love Or else you’re truly something I’ve never encountered before Down the street you’ve got what you need over the counter, boy Damn it, you make it look easy, never flounder boy Merry go rounder, not an all rounder, just a winner boy Alienate yourself because you’re the king You’re the king You’re what I hate the most Personified You’re what I hate the most Still alive Just for a second, just for a lifetime, you’re what I hate the most Who do you think you are? I’m not lying anymore I can’t do this anymore Knocking on your door with his grin Ear to ear Best friend, I detest you

Do you think you can be someone? The room’s already full of people like you Do you think you can be someone? (Being nobody is easy) It’s encouraged by… You try to walk home but your feet, they won’t move It’s easier to stay in one place You tried to be a light source You tried to be on fire You tried to be alive Do you think you can be someone?

Jump Rope 03:46
Look back at your front garden Steps up to your front door, walk away Street echoes, engine moving Always in the opposite direction, walk away Crushing faith like brick dust Red eyes, red eyes, red eyes I walk away Your hands Stare at myself in the mirror What am I even looking for anymore? Walk away You try to get me to jump rope I ain’t no idiot, I ain’t no fool, I’m not gonna be fooled I’ll walk away I look at myself in the mirror I’m the idiot, I’m the fool, I fooled myself Walk away

about

"Strengthen My Hands" is the 3rd EP by Colour Machine.

The EP is a more personal affair then what the band has offered previously, with the lyrics exploring themes of hope, loss and faith, and the music incorporating genres as broad as hip hop, folk and funk in combination with the band's signature alternative rock.

Sonically, the project is a further development in the band's sound and style, and lyrically, a question mark over the things that we try not to think about. What happens when we look out at the bar and it could be empty, for all the connecting that people are really doing? What happens when our own integrity turns out to be false? What happens when we want to be anything but what we have?

A question, a statement, a prayer, a final word.
